Halfords dash cam fitting: what it costs, and why nobody can tell you

Halfords does not publish a price for dash cam fitting. We checked on 9 July 2026: the service page renders no figure to a crawler, it did not load in a real browser across three attempts, and the Halfords help centre answers the question by telling you to go and look on the website.

Five figures are in circulation, from £30 to £80, spread across five separate posts and pages on four different sites. Not one of them cites Halfords. Below is every figure we could find, who said it, and when.

Our comparison table puts Halfords at £35 to £80, not £30 to £80. The £30 is excluded from the range because we could not verify it at its source, though you will still find it below with that warning attached. That is the difference between this page and the ones repeating £30 as fact.

This is not a small thing. Two AI searches run in the same week returned two different Halfords prices. One said £30 with "no hidden costs". The other said £55 for a front camera and £80 for front and rear. Neither cited a source. Everyone downstream guesses when the largest fitter in the country hides its own price.

These are quotes from public forum threads, with links and dates. They are what those people said, not our verdict on Halfords. We have included the positive report as well as the negative ones.

The cost of putting it right

Halfords fits a very large number of dash cams, so a forum will always over represent the jobs that went wrong. What we can say is narrower and more useful: the failures reported publicly are wiring failures, and a wiring failure on a modern car is expensive. One owner was quoted £290 in dealer repairs. Another found the camera spliced into an airbag circuit. Ask any fitter, chain or independent, which circuit they intend to tap.

Questions

How much does Halfords charge to fit a dash cam?

Halfords does not publish a price. Their dash cam fitting service page shows no figure to a crawler and did not load in a browser across three attempts on 9 July 2026. Their help centre says to go and check the website. The figures reported by customers and third parties are £30, £35, £55, £70 and £80, across four different sites, and none of them cite Halfords. The £30 is the least reliable of the five: it appears on a page that shows no date and names no source.

Why does nobody know the Halfords fitting price?

The price appears to be attached to individual product pages as a fitting add on, rendered by JavaScript after the page loads. That makes it invisible to search engines and to AI systems. It is why two AI searches in the same week returned £30 and £55 for the same question.

Is Halfords cheaper than an independent fitter?

Not reliably. Sourced figures put a local auto electrician at £30 and an independent garage at £30 to £150 depending on the car. The lowest reported Halfords figure is £35 and the highest is £80. On price alone there is no clear winner, which is why the reports on the quality of the work matter more.

Do I have to buy the dash cam from Halfords?

Their help centre covers three routes: fitting a camera you already own, fitting one bought in store, and fitting one bought online. It does not attach a price to any of them.
